Gabrielle De Val - Biography

Gaby

Gabrielle comes from Mülheim an der Ruhr (Germany), and moved to Madrid (Spain) when she was very young. When she was only 14, she made her first band, Gandalf, in which she had the opportunity to sing her own songs. Some years later, she formed the rock-band Yin-Yang with David Erick and Iñaqui de Miguel, and they won the second Prize in the X "Villa de Madrid", which is a very famous music competition in Spain. With Yin-Yang, she wrote and composed many songs, first in English and later in Spanish, which became quite popular among the usual rock-audience. She recorded her first single with the band, which had changed its name for D´Val after Alfonso Samos and his brother Angel Luis joined the group.

When D´Val split up, Gabrielle started a career on her own singing and playing her songs, sometimes with bands and sometimes collaborating with different Spanish music producers like Pablo Pinilla or Miguel Blasco, working with musicians like the Italian producer and bass-player Loris Ceroni or her friend, the Dutch singer Denise Stahlie among many others.

In 2000 she joined Fran Molina (guitarist) and Javier Nava (double bass-player) and begun singing jazz versions which were often adapted pop or rock songs and sometimes jazz standards. They recorded a bunch of jazz standards with the band together with Antonio Calero (drummer). More than 60 concerts were given, sometimes with the collaboration of jazz-masters like Vlady Bas (saxophonist), Pedro Esparza (flutist) or Santiago de la Muela (guitarist).

But at the beginning of 2010 she brought D´Val back to life with a new name, THE VAL, and they recorded their first LP, "Back", which was released in 2011 under Alfonso Samos's direction. Now she's writing new songs with the band and feels more energetic than ever before working for The Val's second album...
